HELP FOR ELF.

Our last major concert was on Saturday 16th. November 2002 in the Great Hall, Exeter University. Proceeds for this special concert were made available to the Exeter Leukemia Fund.

Noel Edmonds, Patron of ELF.

  • Leukaemia is now one of Britain's fastest growing killer diseases. In the South west there has been an unprecedented surge in the number of cases of non Hodgkins Lymphoma - higher than anywhere else in the country.

  • ELF supports the work of the Haematology centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E). The Centre treats the areas blood cancer victims, performs bone marrow transplantations and conducts research into the causes and treatment of the disease.

  • ELF has raised £1.5 million, through a public appeal launched in October 1998, of the £2.4 million cost of the Haematology Centre which opened in 2002.

  • The New Haematology Unit is one of the most modern and innovative in Europe. It is a centre of excellence for research projects into the causes and treatment of leukaemia in addition to providing 16 beds, a 12-bed Day Care Unit and a Clinic to treat outpatients.

It has been designed by Architects, Lacey Hickie & Caley, not to look like a hospital, through the use of curves and 22 different colours. A gigantic 350 sq metres courtyard features the Nuffield Hospital donated patience garden which won a silver-gilt award at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Show in 1999. The garden was designed by Jane Mooney who has also designed the Courtyard.
