Elizabeth Drury (soprano)

Elizabeth is a Scholar at the Royal College of Music studying Saxophone and Voice, supported by a Jane Melber Award.  She has participated in many concerts there including a performance of Bach’s B Minor Mass, with Peter Schreier conducting, and a concert of Herbert Howells conducted by Sir David Willcocks.  In Febuary 2004 she performed (on the saxophone) in the televised Woodwind Finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition. In summer 2004 she attended Dartington Summer School with a Scholarship provided by the Heathcote Trust, taking part in Masterclasses with Emma Kirkby.  She has sung as a soloist with many Choral Societies, and has her own one-to-a-part choral group in London, the Gonzaga Consort, which has recently given a series of recitals at the National Gallery.  She also sings with the Choir Ex Cathedra conducted by Geoffrey Skidmore with which she has performed in this country and in Spain, and with the Ionian Singers in London.  Recent solo performances have included Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Somerset Singers in Wells Cathedral and Messiah with the same choir, an Opera Gala concert in Hestercombe Gardens, Taunton, and Poulenc’s Gloria with John Railton and the Dartington Community Choir in Dartington Great Hall.  In November 2003 Elizabeth, Lucy and John Railton performed in Buckingham Palace for a charity reception, and have continued to perform together ever since.

It is with great pleasure that EMGSO welcomes Liz back to the City of Exeter to perform with us once more - this time a leading soprano. When we last teamed up, she gave a brilliant performance of the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto. It goes without saying, that Liz has a bright future ahead of her.
