Commissioned works and premieres.

Over the years, EMGSO has commissioned various new works and it continues to develop ongoing professional relationships with UK composers.

Colin Touchin.

EMG Symphony Orchestra  has been associated with Colin for some years. He has regularly travelled to Devon to take workshops with brass, woodwind and occasional the whole symphony orchestra.

In 2000 Colin was commissioned to write a new piece entitled 'Dome' for Brass, timpani and percussion shortly after his return from the city of Hiroshima, Japan. This stunning work was premiered at a recent Mahler concert in Exeter Cathedral and received much critical acclaim.

Gordon Langford.

EMGSO has been associated with Gordon for many years. His wife, Elaine is one of our leading second violinists. Gordon has kindly allowed us to perform various works of his - Fantasia on Themes from 'La Boheme', 'Four Movements for String Orchestra', and his delightful Trumpet Concerto featured in an Exeter Concert some years ago with Crispian Steele Perkins as soloist. Gordon has played in the trombone section with the orchestra both home and abroad and is a constant source of inspiration to all members.

Allister Brimble

Allister's 'Fantasy Overture ' was commissioned in 2005 and performed in Exeter in March 2006. Allister is one of the UK's leading video game composers and sound effects designers living in the Exeter area, composing music and creating the sound effects for computer games. Many of these games are starting to require full cinematic film style soundtracks, so over the past few years Allister has been learning to write for orchestra. Following an invitation by Roger Hendy to prepare a piece specially for a spring  concert ,Allister produced  a very interesting  short mystical work. The influence of composers such as John Williams and others is evident.
